Birth Doula

Doulas such as Denise are trained and experienced in childbirth and the early postpartum period.

The Doula’s role is to provide physical, emotional, and informational support to expectant and labouring mothers and their partners during the labour, birth and early postnatal period.  Denise can offer help and advice on comfort measures, such as breathing, relaxation, movement and positioning.  Denise can and does make use of a birthing ball (physiotherapy ball), touch, music, aroma therapy, visualization, breathing and tips on positioning.

She also assists women and their families to gather information about the course of their pregnancy, labour and early postpartum and their options at those times.  Perhaps the most crucial role that Denise plays to the family and birthing mother is providing continuous emotional support, reassurance, and comfort.
